Benefits of Bone Broth In Our Diet

Bone Broth Benefits

We get many questions relating to why Cobro is healthy, so we decided it was best to summarise our view on why including it in a healthy diet could be beneficial.

1. Fresh Ingredients

So firstly we have to look at the ingredients. Cobro is made from the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers. Nothing artificial goes into our products or into the manufacturing process. So we started by approaching Cobro by avoiding many deemed unhealthy manufacturing processes and ingredients.

2. Bone Broth Boosts Immunity

Cobro contains many amino acids such as glutamine which have been shown to boost immunity in the body especially in times of stress.

3. Fights Ageing

Cobro (or bone broth) contains collagen a protein found in your skin, cartilage and bones. What we do is break down the collagen by cooking it and turn it into Cobro full of gelatine and amino acids the body then uses. Clinical trials have shown when consuming collagen it was able to improve the elasticity, appearance of wrinkles and hydration of skin.

4. Greater Lean Muscle Mass

In a study women who were given collagen supplements as well as took part in resistance training showed a significantly higher increase in fat-free mass and strength compared to the placebo group (who also took part in resistance training).

In addition collagen contains building blocks of muscle (amino acids) which can be used by the body for muscle growth inside the body.

5. Improves Strength

In a study with elderly men taking collagen alongside resistance training showed improved strength and body composition compared to the placebo group who received no collagen but still did resistance training.

6. Fights IBS And Other Gut Issues

Another study showed that taking glutamine, a common amino acid in Cobro supported the gut intestinal barrier which may protect against IBS and other gut issues such as leaky gut (Intestinal permeability).

7. Support Joint Health

A study found that consuming gelatine and vitamin C increased collagen synthesis inside the body and improved mechanics of ligaments.

8. Bone Broth Promotes Weight Loss

L-glutamine, an essential amino acid found in Cobro (a building block of protein) which is vital for gut health showed in studies to reduce bad bacteria associated with extracting calories from foods eaten. Therefore consuming Cobro might reduce weight gain as a result of reducing the bad bacteria in the gut.

9. Improved Exercise

Cobro contains electrolytes which outperform just water when recovering during of after exercise as result of dehydration.

10. Stronger Hair, Nails, Bones and Teeth

Collagen is the most common protein found inside the body. It has a fiber-like structure and is found  in connective tissue, bones, skin, muscles, tendons and cartilage.

As we age collagen production decreases and as a result we start to see wrinkles, drying of the skin and aching joints. Consuming bone broth (with a balanced diet), which is packed with collagen may help slow down or even reverse some of this.

Additional Benefits

  • Helps with the common cold and other respiratory ailments
  • Fights chronic inflammation
  • Improved hydration
  • Improves mood
  • Anti-aging
  • Helps with Arthritis or joint pain
  • Supports insulin regulation
  • Improve sleep
  • Stronger cells
  • Aids stomach acid function to prevent ulcers, celiac disease etc
  • May help with bleeding issues
  • May have anti-tumour properties

More Information

The main aim of Cobro production is to extract the gelatin or collagen protein to form a delicious and nutritious concentrated beef bone broth.

Gelatin Protein & Collagen

Gelatin protein is the cooked collagen protein which is extracted from the bones of the grass finished cattle bones in Cobro.

Galatin has a number of building blocks that we can use for our bodies. Firstly gelatin is high in conditionally essential amino acids: glycine, proline and glutamine.

Proline is an amino acid that our bodies use to make collagen. Collagen is found in our skin, cartilage (joints/ knees etc) and even our bones. The percentages found vary depending on the location but it forms a significantly high portion of our composition. Our ability to produce collagen from the foods we eat decreases as we age (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1606623/) and therefore it becomes ever more important to find additional sources as we age.

Glycine is another amino acid that our body uses in the production of collagen. Glycine has been shown that it may have positive effects:

  1. reformed into a powerful antioxidant in the body
  2. a key building block in the collagen production
  3. in production of creatine in the body
  4. shown to improve sleep
  5. regulates immune function
  6. has a crucial role in the central nervous system (which controls functions like food intake and behaviour)
  7. has a crucial role in absorption of certain vitamins (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5350494/)
  8. may help with alcohol induced liver damage (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9694963/)
  9. protecting the heart (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15331379/)
  10. protecting against gastrointestinal disorders
  11. treatment for gastric ulcers (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9344231/)
  12. possible anti cancer properties (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10334195/)

Glycine is required more when pregnant, suffering from infection, illness and high intense sporting activities. While there is evidence to support this it is always important to consult your own health professional for advice if changing your diet.

Glutamine

Another amino acid present in Cobro is Glutamine which has shown to have various health benefits:

  1. heal leaky gut
  2. promote a healthy gut
  3. help with bowel problems: celiac, colitis, Crohn's, IBS
  4. aid growth of the villi (tiny hair like projections that line the small intestine)
  5. improved immune system
  6. cell proliferation (process by which cells grow and divide to make new ones)
  7. improved muscle building

Therefore it is the primarily the collagen inside Cobro (that when extracted through proper processes from good quality ingredients) is what gives a significant underline to the statement that it is a healthy food to include in your diet. All these little bits that make up collagen (amino acids) have vast health benefits and some are called essential because we cannot get them from anywhere but our food.

Many more studies need to be done on bone broth and especially collagen. However so far the studies that have or are being done are showing positive results for the body.

The way we like to view it at 2Health is that in the past humans would have not wasted any part of an animal for food. Bones were a staple part of our diets in our past. Boiling bones and using the stock for soups, stews and other recipes was not only a way of making food delicious but it had wonderful health benefits. Our ancestors came to know this, we simply forgot it. We strongly believe there is a reason that your mother's chicken soup is still associated with a cure for the common cold. Our aim with Cobro (our concentrated bone broth) is to reintroduce some of the foods we just don't eat anymore but we really should!

If you made it this far, we just want to say a big thank you for reading this article we put together and we hope you find our products helpful and delicious.
